Our hair puts up with a lot of wear and tear. We use harsh shampoos, attack it with combs and brushes, slap on gels and sprays, use hot blow-dryers and expose it to the sun. All of this can take its toll but if you treat your hair right it will stay healthy and shiny.

•
Shampoos remove the everyday dirt and grime as well as a build-up of natural oils. Choose one suitable for your hair type.
•
Conditioner coats the hair shaft to keep it smooth. If you use it, rinse it out thoroughly, otherwise it can make your hair look dull.
•
Use a low heat when blow drying your hair to avoid drying it out.
•
Although many hair colorants contain ingredients to prevent hair from drying out, avoid colouring too often as it may affect the condition of your hair.
•
Perming solutions can contain harsh ingredients, which damage the hair and even the scalp. So check with your stylist and ask for a gentle one.
•
Certain hair types, such as tight braids, can also damage the hair, so avoid wearing them for long periods of time.
